JUNE 2007
June 26, 2007 - Yesterday Jim and
Chuck brought along Lam and Greg to show them some of the
fantastic trout fishing we have here in Louisiana. Well the
weather forecast was iffy but that’s usually the case when
Jim sets up a trip and we like it that way because it
usually turns out great and we catch lot of fish. Today was
right on track first stop the 2 rookie’s Lam and Greg
putting trout in the boat with Jim and Chuck playing
catch-up. The bite was slow but steady catch a few and wait
then move and do it again. LIVE CROAKERS was the key very
few trout on the shrimp. But it was worth the wait all big
fish 2 to 4 lbs. We had a blast cutting up with each other
and filling the 120qt box with some big trout. Chuck and I
were kidding around acting like throwing Jim’s big trout
overboard and then OPP”S he slipped out my hand and over he
goes the look on Jim’s face was a #10 gawk. PRICELESS! We
laughed it off it‘s all good. Great day on the water Greg
who hails from Missouri and had never experienced Louisiana
fishing but he is HOOKED NOW! He said he is definitely
coming back to do this again.
82 Trout
June 11, 2007 - Robbie and Greg with
Scotch Plywood of Alabama brought their son’s Hamilton and
Edward down to Hopedale for their first time. The 2 little
guys’ played baseball game the night before and came in and
slept in the truck and were rearing to go at daylight. I
headed to where I limited out the day before only to find
the north wind blowing and rough seas and 1 trout. Pounded
back in side and got on some birds and the trout were flying
in the boat. Hamilton said this CHAOS! They were having a
blast. Put a bunch on ice and headed for the marsh to get
the reds. Several stops and then pay dirt found some tide
moving across a point with hungry redfish stacked up. The
drags were running and Edward and Hamilton were running up
and down the boat catching up the reds it was CHAOS again.
Limited on the reds and headed in. AWESOME DAY I had so much
fun with these kids, that is what it is all about they made
my day. 42 Trout, 20 Redfish & 10 Drums
MAY 2007
May 10, 2007 - Steven, Garret and Steve
were waiting for me when I got to the boat. I was a
little late but had the well full of croakers. We headed to
the rigs in the sound to see if the big trout were hungry.
It was a little bouncy but worth the ride. First cast Steven
nails a big 5 lb trout, first fish of the day a trophy
trout. The bite was slow but when you hooked up it was a big
trout all net fish today. No limits but we had the Quality
trout not the numbers. A few fell to plastic but croakers on
the bottom was the way to go.
37 Mule Trout 2 – 5 lbs
May 1, 2007 - Skip and his
daughter Alex were back after a years delay due to the mess
caused by Katrina. Skip was one of my first customers and
has fished with me for the past 7 years; it felt good to
have him on board again. We started out under the birds a
lot of small fish and gaftops but plenty of action, just
what the doctor ordered after whole year of no fishing. We
worked thru the small ones but caught fish all day long.
Finished doing what Skip likes best, Throwing spoons for red
fish. Put a few in the box and headed for the dock. Great
weather and fishing with a good friend and his Daughter it
just does not get much better along with a nice box of fish.
40 Trout & 4 Redfish
APRIL 2007
April 19 2007 – Started out late
around 9:30 with my good friend Cisco to check a few new
area's and locate some fish. We found some trout I Lake
Robin when the phone rang it was my brother Gary he was at
the dock to do some work and wondered what we were catching.
I told him we had some in the boat and if he wanted to catch
some I would run in and get him, Gary quickly replied Heck
ya I want to fish. Ran in got Gary and back to the trout
right where we left them. Then we headed to the outside to
check things out. Caught a few hear and their but nothing
steady. Gary did land a big bull red for his grill before we
called it a day. All fish caught on plastic under corks and
titelined. 50 TROUT & 1 BULL RED.
April 13, 2007 - Greg Meier brought
three young men fishing today Joseph, Robert and Joe. We got
a little delayed start but no problem after a few stops we
were on the trout. The bite was slow but steady and with the
wind and tide a little difficult to get the hook sets but
the boy’s caught on quick and were putting some nice trout
on ice. We would catch a few and move a little to keep in
the bite staying on the troll motor was the key. Old Bayside
plastics in glow chartreuse was the best color under corks.
A great day and a box full of trout along with two Bull
reds. Hats off to Greg for treating some young men to a
day’s fishing. 75 Trout & 2 Bulls.
MARCH 2007
March 13, 2007 - The Romero Gang
invaded Hopedale and were ready for some fishing action.
Speckled Trout was to be the quarry and these guy’s were
ready to catch’em. Larry is a regular and set up this trip
for his family David, Huey, and Chad. First stop and it was
on Chartreuse plastic’s 3 ft under corks. The guy’s were
putting trou6t in the boat one after the other. We worked
the area over good with non stop action. We had some
throwbacks but most were nice trout but the action was
almost every cast. The wind kicked up pretty stiff and ran
us to some more protected area’s to finish out their limit.
Got on a good bite and called over one our other boats to
get on the trout and we headed in search of reds but acme up
dry. No Problem it was a great day. 100 Trout.
March 8, 2007 - I had to bring the
boat back to Hopedale today and try out the POWER POLE and
invited 2 friends Steve and Al aka WEEZ along on a little
afternoon scouting trip. I went to some areas that I have
not fished in lately to hunt up some fish. Caught a few
trout but not many. Fished several ponds and flats looking
for reds by nothing. Hit some points and islands and found
the trout willing and ready. All fish caught on plastics in
about 4 ft of water. Titeline was the best but the cork was
catching also. Used Old Bayside plastic’s Mud Minnow and bay
Shrimp in chartreuse and smoke glitter. I had a good time
just fishing for the fun and got some fillets for the house
too. But boy were the gnats waiting for us at the dock,
cleaning the boat and fish was not fun. The POWER POLE
worked great I can believe I waited this long to get one. If
you fish shallow water lot like I do get one you will not
regret it.
BOX FULL OF TROUT!
FEBRUARY 2007
February
11, 2007
- Pierre brought the Pools-N-Stuff gang to Hopedale for some
trout fishing. The NE wind was a whipping. Things started
slow, worked lake Ameda in several areas but only a few
trout. Then I decided to drift across the whole lake wind
and waves and all. Dropped the drift sock and started
picking up the trout in the rough stuff. It had to be under
cork to get a bite. The guys were having fun catching
steady with a lot of throwbacks but nice fish too. After a
few drifts they had 75 in the box and we called it a day.
Great day and did not have to run far in the cold to do it
too. 75 Trout.
February 2, 2007
- The forecast was for the wind to calm down the sun to
shine and warm up today. Well the wind blew 20+ NW, the sun
failed to show, and the temperatures seemed to drop all
day. However, good friend Capt. Cisco and myself were out
to do some fish locating and that is what we did. With the
water below the 50-degree mark the trout were biting slow
and subtle. But we continued to move around and probe the
depth’s 7 to 15 ft with Old bayside plastics and worked our
way to a limit of quality trout. The bite is slow and funny
right now but you have to work your baits SLOOOW to get the
bites, but the fish are nice and there are not many other
boats out there in weather like today.
